Organizations are adopting Macs more than ever before, and for good reason. According to IDC, more than 45% of organizations use macOS in their environment, and this number is increasing.

With this comes some growing pains as organizations try to integrate Macs with their existing IT infrastructure, with fewer than 50% of Macs in business deployments enrolled in any device management software. But as we know, for your devices to be secure, they need to be enrolled.

Managing and securing these Macs presents new challenges for admins used to other operating systems. Admins turn to Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) tools for a solution. While UEM is generally intended for multiple operating systems, admins are using similar UEM technologies for use across the Apple platform — encompassing Macs, iPads, iPhones, Apple TVs and Apple Watches.

Of companies that adopt UEM solutions, 70% of them use more than one product in their environment, often for a specific use case, like Apple device management. Selecting the right management solution isn’t always obvious. The IDC MarketScape: Worldwide UEM Software for Apple Devices 2024 Vendor Assessment shows the leading vendors in the space, which we’ll take a look at in this blog.

Leading UEM software for Apple devices

So what does it mean to be a leading vendor? IDC evaluates eligible Apple UEM vendors by comparing their future strategy and its alignment with customer needs and their current capabilities and how well they are aligned with customer needs and their strategy.

Furthermore, IDC suggests that vendors offering UEMs for Apple device management should offer:

  • Strong support and adherence to Apple device management architectures and features announced at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference
  • Integration with key enterprise identity, security and systems infrastructure software platform
  • Analytics, telemetry and endpoint analysis

Jamf leads the pack

Given these criteria, IDC named Jamf as a leading vendor for a “focused strategy on Apple device management, coupled with its extended security and zero-trust functionality.” In their report, IDC also mentions Jamf’s capabilities across the Apple platform and our rapid support for new features introduced by Apple.

Jamf offers a number of integrations with common products like Okta, Microsoft Entra and Microsoft Sentinel, as well as many others in the Jamf Marketplace. This means organizations with all kinds of workflows can find the tools they need with Jamf.
