Do visions of large-scale iOS deployments keep you awake at night? We wrangled up Charles Edge—Chief Technology Officer for 318—to set some things straight, give us best practices to put to use, and some great tips and tricks, in what we hear may be his last large speaking engagement for at least a year. (We seriously can’t thank you enough for joining us, Charles!)
We then explored the nooks and crannies of the Volume Purchase Program (VPP codes) and how they can be applied in different deployment scenarios. Charles likened VPP codes to Groupon, these codes can be purchased in volume with discounts available.
Onward we trekked to learn how Apple Configurator was born through the pains felt through using iTunes for iOS configurations, that Exchange ActiveSync can only house a limited number of policies, and that “Profile Manager is the gateway drug to the Casper Suite.”
Charles Edge will be publishing a book on the topic of Apple Configurator, which will (we’re pretty sure) have a plethora of mass deployment materials if you’re looking for more information.
