Joel is the Senior Software Architect for Bushel. He is responsible for making the hard decisions about what we do with the back-end, from clustering of the web apps to libraries and solutions included, to the terrible refactoring of software that must be done from time to time.
Fun Facts:
- I am married with 3 daughters. We also have a female dog and crayfish (don’t ask). Oh, and a male guinea pig.
- I mostly think and daydream about fly fishing.
- In 5th grade I was called to the principal’s office with no idea why. It turned out he wanted me to solve his Rubik’s cube. I was terrified the whole time.
- I grew up in the same house from when I was born until I went to college.
- I asked my wife if the first song at our wedding dance could be “Tainted Love”. I didn’t get the song, but she married me anyway.
- I built a stand-up MAME machine about 7(?) years ago.
Sad Facts:
- I can still solve the Rubik’s cube, but my old hands can only do it in about 2 minutes — way slower than my record of 52 seconds as a 10 year old.
- My MAME machine is still not completed — and it never will be (probably). Also, I hardly ever play it. It is fully functional, however.
Favorite Foods:

- Pizza. But only real pizza, none of that junk with macaroni or chicken on it (that’s not pizza).
Favorite trips:
- San Diego with my parents, wife and daughters. Great weather, food, company. The beach, Sea World and zoo were favorites!
- Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness trips. Nature, silence, beauty — can’t beat it.
Favorite joke:
- (this is actually my 6 year old’s favorite joke): Q: Where do you find a dog with no legs? A: Right where you left him!
Favorite part about working here:
- Charles. I don’t think there’s any need to say more!
