Smart Group and Advanced Search Criteria for iBeacon Regions

Overview

You can create smart groups and advanced searches using the "Bluetooth Low Energy Capability" and "Location Services for Self Service Mobile" criteria. This article explains those criteria and associated values, and provides an example of how the criteria can be used.

Example:
Report on every computer that is not capable of using Bluetooth Low Energy because the computer has incompatible hardware.

The criteria for this example is:

Bluetooth Low Energy Capability is Not Capable

Smart Mobile Device Group or Advanced Mobile Device Search Criteria Values Required iOS Version Usage Example
Bluetooth Low Energy Capability

The mobile device's capability to use Bluetooth Low Energy

Capable

Not Capable/Unknown

Note: The Unknown value indicates that the JSS is unaware of the mobile device's capability to detect iBeacons using Bluetooth Low Energy because Self Service Mobile has never been opened on the mobile device.

iOS 7 or later
Example:
Report on every mobile device that is not capable of detecting iBeacons using Bluetooth Low Energy because the mobile device has incompatible hardware.

The criteria for this example is:

Bluetooth Low Energy Capability is Not Capable/Unknown

Location Services For Self Service Mobile

Based on whether Location Services has been enabled on the mobile device for the Self Service Mobile app

Enabled

Not Enabled/Unknown

Note: The Unknown value indicates that Self Service Mobile has never been opened on the device, or Self Service Mobile has not been opened since the initial iBeacon region was added to the JSS.

iOS 7 or later Example:
Report on every mobile device that does not have Location Services enabled for Self Service Mobile.

The criteria for this example is:

Location Services For Self Service Mobile is Not Enabled/Unknown
