Patch Management Software Titles

Overview

Jamf Pro includes many third-party software titles that can be used to perform patch reporting, patch notifications, and patch policies on computers in your environment. These third-party software titles represent software that is not available in the App Store. In addition, Jamf Pro includes the macOS title.

When you configure a patch management software title, you are able to receive a notification when a software title update has been released by the vendor and added to Jamf Pro, as well as generate reports for the software titles in your environment which allows you to identify the software titles that need to be updated.

The following software titles are provided in Jamf Pro:

  • Adobe AIR
  • Adobe Acrobat DC Classic Track
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Classic Track
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro DC
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro XI

  • Mozilla Firefox: Extended Support Release (ESR) Note: Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Firefox ESR share the same bundle ID, so Jamf Pro interprets them as the same software title by default. An extension attribute is used with this software title to include only Mozilla Firefox ESR version numbers.
  • OneDrive
  • Recon
  • Self Service for macOS
  • Skype
  • Skype for Business
  • Sophos Antivirus for Mac
  • Sophos Endpoint Protection
  • Symantec Endpoint Protection

Each software title includes the following information:

  • Latest version of the software, older versions of the software, and the dates the versions were released
  • Publisher, apps, fonts, and plug-ins
  • Dependencies such as additional apps that are required for a specific title to be updated
  • Whether reboot is required when updating the software

Additional Information

For more information about patch notifications, patch reporting, and patch policies, see the Jamf Pro Administrator's Guide.

Typically, Jamf attempts to release software title updates within 48 hours of their discovery. For information about how software title updates are added to Jamf Pro, see the Jamf Process for Updating Patch Management Software Titles Knowledge Base article.

@greatkemo Good question, Last week we posted a new Firefox ESR definition, and added an EA to Firefox. We are currently in the process of working on Skype For Business. If you have specific titles you would like, at this time the best option is to create a Feature Request.

@PCalomeni i & @shawn.eberle - Who do we contact about getting versions updated? Microsoft Office has had an update out for over two weeks now and Patch Reporting is still showing the old version. At least half my environment is showing unknown versions because they're past your most current version.

@Javy Good Morning, we released the Office update 15.31.17021600 on Feb- 17th. If it is not showing up in your JSS please reach out to your Support Contact. I will follow up with them as well. Sorry for the troubles.

@shawn.eberle Hello, Shawn. Thanks for the recent addition of Skype for Business as a Patch Reporting Software Title.

Will you please comment on why the Sophos Antivirus for Mac Patch Reporting Software Title requires an Extension Attribute? (That app's version number appears to already be available in a computer record's app inventory.)

@dan.snelson Thanks for the post, yes in first testing we had no Extension Attribute associated with the definition. As we continued to test we found that Sophos was not always updating the correct plist. There were a lot of inconsistencies around the 9.2.4 and 9.2.8 versions. There was a JN discussion on this as well: https://www.jamf.com/jamf-nation/discussions/18434/determine-sophos-anti-virus-version
Let me know if you have any further questions!

I really like using this feature but would like to know how to get more applications listed. Is there a future list of applications that will be added ?

@DA001KL Thanks for the post... At the moment we do not have an official "list" that we are taking from. We are going from Feature Requests and other requests that we have been given from customers. We have implemented 4 or 5 feature requests already this year! If you have a title you would like to add or multiple throw them in there, get the votes up and we will get started on it. "May the 4th be with you"

Would like to see Google Drive added to this list. Our institution is a Google shop, and many users use google drive. Additionally, if Google Drive isn't updated, it will not open - prompting the user to update to the latest version. I am using smart groups to stay ahead of this now, but the patch reporting is a handy option as well.

Since you have Patch Reporting available for other Microsoft Apps, Can we get OneDrive on the List.

Thanks

Adobe Flash needs to be separated in Patch Reporting/Policies into PPAPI and NPAPI.

Hey All,

I feel like I'm being blind when looking at the above list, and my JSS but Adobe Animate isn't in the list, right? If not, could we get that added with the other CC apps? Looks like its the one app missing from the list.

Cheers

Hi all,

Also Box.com has a short life-cycle interval, every month there is a update available, it would be nice if they can be added to the patch management software tile.

https://e3.boxcdn.net/box-installers/desktop/releases/mac/Box.pkg

Kind regards.

I'd really like to see the MacOS patch management done with build numbers. For example, 10.12.6 could be well over a year out of date depending on its build number. So I'd like to see 16G1618 as a patch level to which I can assign the 2018-005Sierra package.

Hi all,

I've run into an issue when deploying Adobe Flash Player as a DMG file and "Fill existing user home directories (FEU)". This option is not working. All clients now have a folder with the username I created the package with in the "Users" folder.

When I deploy the DMG file through a policy it doesn't happen. Has someone else run into this issue too, or is it something I might be missing?

Thanks

Hi,

is there a chance to add the Affinity Products (Designer, Photo and Publisher). I know they are available through the Mac App Store but we for example bought 50 educational licenses directly from Serif because they offer special pricing. But those cannot be updated through the App Store. At least I couldn't figure it out.

Thanks
