Help with target disk mode imaging

I'm looking for some assistance in target disk mode imaging.

I've got it to work correctly once, say I do a recovery option, erase the disk then start again and target disk mode works.

Now using the options to re-image the partition if exists does not seem to work. When I try to re-image the system without doing an erase disk I get a "Not enough storage space to install xxxxx.dmg" which is the image file. Isn't it supposed to overwrite the partition? Also, if I choose erase drives connected to this computer , well that doesn't really happen and all I get is the same error message. Am I supposed to manually erase the disk then image every time? Seems a bit tedious to me...

FYI I have the recovery partition created in my Configuration Profile. I've tried just the recovery partition and also the boot partition included and all combinations but with no luck on imaging up a system that I've already imaged through casper imaging...
