Self Service notification when policy is updated?

I know you can push a notification to Self Service when you create a new policy and make it available in Self Service, I have that checked and it works, but what if you are just updating an existing policy, say with a new version of the software? I still want to notify Self Service users that there is a new version of the software available in Self Service, but I don't want to create a new policy for it just to push the notification out.

Or is that how people are doing it? Rename the old policy, clone it, change name to what it should be, replace package with new package and save it?
