Using Apple Classroom without Users

Switching from user-based app deployment to device-based app deployment, and hoping to avoid using any AppleID.

At the same time, can Apple's Classroom app be used so that teacher/student/class assignments are all device based? Hoping to avoid using Users.

@costes My understanding is that Apple Classroom requires users to be assigned to a device in an MDM, this is unrelated to how you can deploy apps. So as long as you only change your app deployment, but keep the devices still assigned to users (e.g. completing the User and Location fields), you should be fine.

https://help.apple.com/classroom has some further detail about Apple Classroom (but doesn't explain the users assignment part very well)

You will want to assign a user to each device in jamf so that the user names appear in Apple Classroom on the teacher's iPad. Otherwise, you will loose the benefit of knowing who is using the iPads. If you had 26 iPads in a classroom without student names, you would not know which student is on which iPad. Makes Apple Classroom less useful.

If you have a CSV file with iPad SN# and Student IDs, it is easy enough to import students using JSS MUT.
