Xerox Versant 80 Press & Xerox 80 EX 80 Print Server (and macOS Sierra)

Not sure who to hate more. Electronics For Imaging, or the companies that rely on their RIPs.

So the Xerox Versant 80 Press comes with three RIP options:

  • Xerox Versant 80 Press with Xerox 80 EX 80 Print Server <--- Sierra not supported yet
  • Xerox Versant 80 Press with Xerox 80 EX-i 80 Print Server <--- Sierra not supported yet
  • Xerox Versant 80 Press with Xerox 80 FreeFlow Print Server <--- Sierra supported

The first two Servers don't yet support macSO Sierra, as per their Xerox® Product Compatibility macOS Sierra document.

Of course Xerox is like a lot of vendors who simply don't care about keeping up with new OS releases. So much easier to wait until things don't work so they can collectively point their finger at Apple. So much for running a business in today's world, where cutting corners is rewarded. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

On the off chance someone on this forum was able to get Xerox Versant 80 Press with Xerox Versant 80 EX 80 Print Server to work on Sierra, would love to hear how you did it. I mean, unless you used sneaker-net. :)

TIA,
Don

EFI emailed me a link to the macOS Sierra driver. Apparently they provided Xerox with macOS Sierra drivers back in December. #wavesFistAtXerox

Did you try installing the drivers for Yosemite for the hell of it?

The reason I ask is that the driver package for 10.10, 10.9, and 10.8 appears to be exactly the same (44.9MB). Maybe nothing has changed, but no question Xerox is responsible for updating the site or at least tagging the existing driver with "10.11" and "10.12" so it gets categorized in their content system correctly.

As always, happy to give the vendor an opportunity to get their act together....

Posted to their blog, here is a screenshot in case they pull it:

@donmontalvo You'll get more flies with money honey.

Maybe sending them a nice email instead of blasting them on Twitter, and not bringing the weight of Xerox's PR wing down on the Jamf Nation forums? Just saying, dude...

Feel free to email them. Good luck. ;) When it comes to updating Fiery drivers, nothing happens until the printer vendor gets enough complaints to push for an update. There was never an update for 10.11, and nothing for 10.12, yet. Already confirmed.

Thank you for this information Don. I see there is a 10.13 driver there now.

Cheers!
