Jamf Connect Sync Filesharing to MS DFS Shares?

I'm in the process of configuring Jamf Connect Sync.
- I have it pulling Kerbos tickets
- I can directly connect to an SMB share
- It will not access a DFS mount point even though through MacOS "Connect to a Server" I manually can access that mount point.

for example:

sync connects to: smb://file-server-name.domain.local/files/shared/
sync will not connect to: smb://domain.local/files/shared/
MacOS will connect to: smb://domain.local/files/shared/

Does anyone have Sync setup to mount DFS shares?

My Apple SE informed that DFS requires a Mac to be fully bound to AD to allow connection (one of the limitation software Enterprise Connect if used in a un-bound configuration) - I assume NoMAD, Jamf Connect will be the same.

Speaking to both Apple and Microsoft, are recommending using Microsoft Storage Replica now instead of DFS (most of the advantages of DFS, but also work well with Azure and full backwards compatibility with SMB for Mac users)
