Cannot re-image a new "Haswell" Macbook Pro with 10.9

I made a Mavericks image from the download provided by Apple. After I configured this image with all our Corporate Standards, I compressed it and restored it to an external drive. The external drive works great, but when I try to boot that external drive from a MacBook Pro "Haswell" I get the circle with the line across. So I cannot even boot from that external drive to image it. I don't want to have to build a brand new image every time I need to deploy one of those MacBooks to our corporate environment. Why can't I boot externally and re-image with the std image I have or will I have to push a net boot image?

Those machines currently run a unique build of 10.9. You'll need to build an image specific to that model until 10.9.2 (potentially) comes along.
