South Middle School is excited to inform us of their second annual STEAM fair! They had 124 EC middle school students participate in last year's event.
This event will replace their traditional science fair with a much bigger event that brings in the other two middle schools in Eau Claire, with plans to expand to other area schools in the future. They have partnered with the Lismore Hotel, Chippewa Valley Sustainability Fair and Earthbound Environmental Services in conjunction with Earth Week to bring this event to our students and community. The end of the day will feature an open house and they are hoping to have informational booths from UWEC, CVTC, and local STEM businesses to round out the promotion of STEAM as a viable career path and ways to make a difference in our community.
In addition to this being a science fair for the students to showcase their ideas, it is also a full afternoon of learning for the kids. The day will feature guest speakers addressing the topics surrounding the promotion of Earth Day and will end with judging of their projects and awards. The community will be welcomed in after the judging is done for an open house to view the students work.
They are looking for help! They need to have a minimum of 30 judges (20 from Jamf) to review the student’s projects and offer feedback. Ideally the judges will be from fields related to STEAM. This is ideal for two reasons – the judge can provide relevant and practical advice to the students based on real life experiences AND the student depth of learning is increased when they know their final product will be judged by a professional or college professor in the field.
They would love to have our help judging the projects. Please sign up as soon as possible if you can help with this exciting event. Sign up will be closed on April 1st!
