Treat Mobile Apps more like Mac Packages

It would be great if instead of adding groups to each scope of one app, you could set all the apps you want in a certain policy—just like on the Mac side. This would also clean up the app catalog—instead of having a "self service" version and a "auto-install" version that require different names—just like Mac packages—the apps would be the same, but the policy determines how they're installed.

Our teachers use A LOT of apps in a shared environment. It would be great to create an "App policy" per grade level and add the apps to that policy, instead of going in to each and every app and adding the groups to the scope. The current way makes on-boarding or adding new groups/carts really time consuming...

Agreed. It would be nice to see the way VPP assignments are scoped translated over to the device assignment system. You can already scope an app by user groups in the current device assignment implementation so why not.

What @C_T said! I realize the two other tickets have been marked as duplicates of this one, but I would just like to clarify if something like this was implemented, I think the semantics of equating it to a mac policy is the wrong comparison since policies don't run on mobile devices. This request - https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/featureRequest.html?id=4025 - is much more accurate - the functionality should mirror the options available to User VPP Assignments where multiple apps are able to be assigned to a scope with the options pane allowing full sorting/searching/selection of multiple apps. This would allow us to do scope a set of apps to a single grade, cart, building, department, email address, etc - however you wanted it scoped.

In the App catalog you choose for auto install or get via self service. If we could get "VPP Device Assignments" (similar to the VPP User Assignments) could it also include option to have the apps auto installed or made available via self service. Then you could have desired apps auto installed by default for devices and those "optional" apps available via self service. In education there are lots of apps the teachers suggest and it would be good to make these optional for other teachers rather than clutter up their device.

Will leave the licensing upto JAMF as to when the VPP license gets allocated for the self service app. Should be on install from self service that the VPP licenses is decremented.

Voting up. Saw this feature yesterday on ZuluDesk and it was slick. Jamf needs to get this ASAP.

Need to be able to choose a Smart Group and then check off all apps that the group gets from within the Smart Group rather than having to scope each individual app.

This is a big deal, very disappointed in JAMF that this has not been implemented. Almost seems like since they have been sold, they dont care as much as they used to.

We are new to JAMF and it feels like we are managing Apps backwards. On our previous MDM server we would open the group of iPads and check all of the Apps we wanted to add to that group.
Want to create a new group of devices with a similar set of Apps? Drag the entire list over to the new group and remove the ones you don't want.

It is not clear to me what the vision of this design was. That said we are happy to be with JAMF.

Agreed, managing apps backwards in JAMF. This has been requested for sometime but it seems to be falling on deaf ears.. This really neeeds to be implemented..

I have an additional feature request that looks the same.

This is basically asking for blueprint functionality, which is the configuration method used by Apple Configurator and Jamf Now.

Seems like the way to go.
