Integrating Jamf Pro with Apple's Device Enrollment Program (DEP)

Welcome to our guide on integrating Jamf Pro with Apple's Device Enrollment Program (DEP). This step-by-step guide will walk you through the process of easily deploying and configuring iOS and macOS devices by automating MDM enrollment and supervision of devices during setup.

Prerequisites

Before we start, ensure that you have signed up for Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager. If you've already integrated with Apple DEP as part of these programs and are looking for help renewing your existing server token, you can find our tutorial video on "Renewing a Device Enrollment Server Token File" [here](#) or in the description below.

Step 1: Download the Public Key from Jamf Pro

1. Log into your Jamf Pro account.
2. Click the settings gear in the top right corner.
3. Select "Global Management" in the sidebar.
4. Click on "Device Enrollment Program" (Note: DEP was the previous name for the Apple Device Enrollment Program).
5. Click on "Public Key". The Public Key will be saved to your default downloads folder.

Step 2: Add New MDM Server in Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager

1. Log into your Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager account. You may be prompted to verify your identity.
2. In the sidebar, select "MDM Servers" in the "Devices" category.
3. Click "Add New MDM Server".
4. Enter a name for your MDM server.
5. Click "Upload File" and upload the Public Key file you downloaded from Jamf Pro.
6. Click "Save". The server token file will download immediately.

Step 3: Upload the Server Token File to Jamf Pro

1. In Jamf Pro, click the "Settings" gear in the top right corner of the screen.
2. Click "Global Management".
3. Click "Device Enrollment Program", and then click "New".
4. Enter a display name for the Apple DEP instance.
5. Click "Upload Server Token File" to upload the server token file you downloaded from Apple.
6. The information contained in the server token file is displayed.
7. Click "Save".

Step 4: Assign Devices to Your MDM Server

1. Log into Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager as a Device Manager.
2. Click "Device Assignments" in the sidebar.
3. Choose the devices you'd like to assign by Serial Number, Order Number, or by uploading a CSV File of device serial numbers.
4. Select "Assign to Server" in the "Choose Action" dropdown to assign these devices to your MDM server.
5. Head back to Jamf Pro, select your Apple DEP instance, and click "Refresh". If there is updated information in Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager, this information is displayed in Jamf Pro.
