How to use Jamf Teacher to restrict the Calculator app
Learn how Jamf Teacher helps educators manage the new Calculator app in iPadOS 18 by restricting access during lessons to keep students focused on learning.
With the release of iPadOS 18 comes the eagerly awaited Calculator app for the iPad. With the rapid growth of iPad use across education, the request for the Calculator app has been on the list for a while.
The app not only provides that access, but it also comes with some additional enhancements that support the classroom:
Math Notes
Math Notes brings the ability to write out math problems and have the iPad solve it, by simply drawing in the equal sign alongside it.
Convert
Convert does just that — convert! From currency to temperature and more, Convert does the work for you, directly in the interface.
Sounds great, right? Yes! But we know that new tools, while they bring efficiencies, can also cause distractions and detract from the learning.
That's where Jamf Teacher comes in.
The app that teachers use to support student focus on devices, also provides the ability to remove the app from devices when it’s not needed.
Note: IT admins need to add the Calculator app to a list of System Apps in the Jamf Teacher settings section of Jamf School or Jamf Pro.
How to restrict the Calculator app with Jamf Teacher
It’s as easy as 1-2-3!
Step 1: Launch your class.
