Techs and Librarians: A Match Made in School District Heaven

As a Library teacher, you never know who will walk through the door and what they are going to ask.

As a Library teacher, you never know who will walk through the door and what they are going to ask. They could be wanting the newest Dog Man by Dav Pilkey or have a cracked screen on their iPad. At the School District of La Crosse, we have 14 school buildings, 9 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and 2 high schools. Thankfully, as certified library teachers, we don't have to do it all. We have a district technology help number to call for tech emergencies and an ability to put in help desk tickets. And the best part? We have an in-house tech that comes to our buildings once a week. Meet Dan, he is one of our in-house techs. In addition to visiting 4 schools within our district, he also covers the help desk phone number, collaborates with not only library teachers across the district but also supports every idea we have with a smile on his face. Dan and the other technology services team members help teachers with what needs to be done. Be it deployment and collection of devices, fixing MacBook screens, professional development, streaming the band concert, or sitting in our library spaces to answer questions as part of "Just Ask Dan." We are there for each other as the front line for issues and vanguards of future technology in our schools. During this session, we will share our model of how technicians and library teachers work together to create student and staff success in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
