Best Practice for Modifying/Merging Existing Config Profiles?

I have (2) macOS configurations in Jamf for managing Google Chrome (both reference com.google.Chrome domain). Both profiles are scoped to the same computers. One profile has been in production for overa year and the other is farily new. I think this double-profile situation was an oversight on my part (there was no reseaon to have two discreet profiles in this situation).

I want to clean-up my profiles a bit and merge these two profiles into a single Google Chrome profile.

What is the best way to acomplish this task (without orphaning any settings on clients or other bad/sloppy things happening.)

Should I...

1) Remove all computers from the (2) scopes gracefully, merge the custom .plist data, and upload it to JSS, then reapply the scope.

2) Remove the two existing profiles (without revoking the scopes) and then deploy the new combined .plist profile.
