When Hopkins Public Schools decided to flip learning on its head, they turned to iPad — and Jamf to help make the new program a success.
Innovation in teaching
Hopkins began participating in a pilot program in 2012, leveraging a teaching method called “flipped” classes. Students watch lectures as homework and then are given a short quiz after the lecture. Teachers access the results of these quizzes and know before their next class how well each student understands the concepts they’re teaching. From there, teachers can customize their class based on how well the students understand the lesson.
Jamf Pro and Hopkins – a perfect pair
By enabling IT to mass deploy and easily manage all 4,000 iPads, Jamf Pro has been a crucial tool for the school district to deliver an innovative and customized learning experience for its students. In Hopkins, all students can now take learning into their own hands with access to a digital learning environment. Elementary students can check out an iPad from a cart in their classroom, middle school students carry an iPad with them throughout the entire school year, and high schoolers benefit from the “flipped” classroom experience.students safely get the most out of their iPads.
Teachers teach, kids learn
With the technical aspects of managing iPads solved, teachers and students are able to concentrate on learning and teaching, instead of spending time and energy on administrative issues. With the free iOS app, Jamf Focus, teachers can guide students through lessons on the iPad, keeping them focused on the task at hand, then release control when the students are ready to explore on their own.
Easy control for district staff
Self Service also lets students and teachers get the apps they need to be productive – without having to con- tact IT for support. Another part of Jamf Pro, Jamf Focus, enables teachers to lock students to certain apps or web pages during class (again without the need for IT staff help), so they’re able to guide learning and improve time management.
Jamf Pro has been able to support everything we’ve wanted to do as a district, which is noteworthy given the limited size of our IT staff. The technology has proven itself as the best-in-breed solution for Apple device management, enabling us to provide self-service benefits to our users.
