Apple’s operating systems have been preaching the importance of having a clean and consistent user interface for decades. This afternoon Jason Borchardt from State Farm and Arek Sokol from Code 42 explained to a packed and curious JNUC crowd how a clear and concise user interface can be applied —not only for software distribution—but for any type of interaction you may have with your users. The duo spoke about how to use built-in Casper Suite and third party tools to enhance your companies’ internal brand with a clean and consistent user interface.
They urged their peers to consider all the different form factors (device types) in their environment when creating custom windows. Arek stressed the importance of details. “Details really matter,” he said. “Think about spelling, cadence, and time zones.”
Jason shared his Good Neighbor approach to helping users by presenting them with “something that looks really native” yet captures credentials so they can configure things like Lync, Exchange, and web pages.
The crowd really enjoyed Jason’s strategy for software scans – automatically determining what needs to be updated and installing it – and showing a great “native” progress bar. “Our adoption rate is 80% for patches,” he said.
“We’re Apple admins living in a Windows world,” said Jason who went on to praise Apple and JAMF Software for continuing to create great tools to help him and others do their job better.
Thanks Jason and Arek! The Q&A portion was one of the liveliest of the day.
