In this session, I will cover the realities of implementing a zero-touch for IT workflow for laptop provisioning. After direct shipping laptops from apple to hundreds of users to set up remotely, we found problems our Jamf workflow did not have a solution for. Some of these problems occurred before the user even was able to log in to the computer. I will cover the user instructions and Jamf policies we used to mitigate these issues. As well as the strategies we used to take our zero-touch for IT provisioning from something that worked in testing, to something that worked in practice with actual users.

Whether it’s for new hires or replacing old/broken hardware setting up computers is a core function of any IT team. This session will cover both specific workflows & policies as well as a strategy for approaching the problem of automating away issues with computer setups. Users need to set up computers onsite or remotely without a tech standing over their shoulder. Creating a great computer setup experience is key to giving your co-workers a great first day or replacing computers with minimal downtime.
