Okta Workflows and Jamf Pro
This JNUC 2021 session on Apple device management with Okta Workflows and Jamf Pro is an API automation how-to with detailed instructions and use cases.
Okta and Okta Workflows
First, Wendell offers an introduction to Okta: an independent and neutral platform for workforce identity, and a scalable and secure customer identity platform.
Okta Workflows is a way to automate actions across apps to manage complex identity scenarios at scale. It uses if-this-then-that logic combined with Okta's pre-built connector library. This gives Mac admins the ability to connect to any publicly available API, such as Jamf’s API.
It allows you to automate identity-specific tasks across apps without requiring any code.
Okta Workflows has more than 40 connectors to some of the most-used applications in the market. Within these connectors, they have more than 400 actions and events.
API Automation: using Jamf Pro’s built-in connector
Jamf and Okta introduce a new connector based on Jamf Pro’s Classic API during this session, which attendees can learn more about at Jamf Marketplace.
Using the Jamf Pro’s Classic API, Okta has a collection of 17 actions Mac admins can perform out of the box.
Bonnin and Wendell take attendees through a step-by-step how-to of how to integrate Jamf Pro into Okta.
Okta Workflows examples and use cases
The presenters run through detailed examples and use cases with step-by-step instructions to situations such as:
- How to run MDM commands following a schedule
- Distribute apps based on Okta assignments
- Creating customized conditional access
- Securing your Jamf Pro scripts
- Using templates
Integrating other Jamf products
Jamf offers API endpoints for most of our products, including the new Jamf Pro API, Jamf Protect’s API and Jamf School’s API. It’s possible to create custom API calls within Okta Workflows for all of these products.
With the use of Okta’s Connector Builder, admins may author new Workflows connectors within Okta’s no-code flow designer. Vendors can build connectors for their customers, and admins can build them to easily connect their custom tools.
Visit Jamf’s API developer center to get started on these and other custom tools.
