AppConfig spotlight: communicate, meet and collaborate with Jamf Marketplace partners

Having the right tools can make a huge impact on everyone's success — especially in the modern, mobile workforce era.

The Jamf Marketplace is home to hundreds of apps that integrate, support AppConfig or have specification documentation for Jamf. They simplify life for admins, streamlining the deployment of apps and software to the entire workforce using Jamf for mobile device management (MDM).

One of the developer tools Jamf supports is Apple’s Managed App Configuration protocol. This enables admins to specify settings for apps as they are deployed, reducing the number of steps for end users by enabling the management of in-app settings.

As a founding member of the AppConfig Community and the only one focused solely on Apple Enterprise Management, Jamf is uniquely positioned to enable workflows that put the user at the center of the equation.

Working with like-minded organizations to help them understand and implement AppConfig, admins benefit from apps that simpler to configure and secure as a part of the deployment.

While there are many apps that support AppConfig, we wanted to highlight several that help employees communicate, meet and collaborate with colleagues.

Communicate

Slack brings your organization — enterprise or small business — team communication and collaboration capabilities into one place so you can support end-user experience and efficiency. Check off your to-do list and move your projects forward by bringing the right people, conversations, tools and information you need together in one central hub. Slack is available on any device, so you can find and access your team and your work, whether you’re at your desk or on the go.

Some organizations require additional security for their communication platforms, and there is another version of the popular app called Slack for EMM just for them. Leveraging the power of AppConfig, a Jamf admin can allow only particular workspaces to be connected in addition to disabling the copy feature from the app entirely. Here’s an example of an AppConfig that would enable this extra layer of security:

Meet

Don’t let being away from the office slow your business down. Experience engaging, productive meetings from wherever you are. Cisco Webex Meetings delivers over 6 billion meetings per month, offering industry-leading video and audio conferencing with sharing, chat, and more.

To drastically simplify deployment, Webex Meetings supports zero-touch configuration with AppConfig. Jamf Pro can automatically configure the device, install the app, and sign in to a predefined account. Knowing that the app will automatically be signed in removes so much user friction, especially when the devices are wiped as part of the Jamf Healthcare Listener workflow.

This new functionality builds upon an already impressive set of AppConfig customizations available for Webex admins. Here’s an example AppConfig that would enable this workflow:

Collaborate

Dropbox is a creative collaboration space designed to reduce busywork, bring your files together in one central place and safely sync them across all your devices—so you can access them anytime, anywhere. And sending large files is easy, even to people who don’t have a Dropbox account. Features like the doc scanner, shared folders, offline access and more make collaborating with others simple.

Dropbox makes an enterprise version of their app called Dropbox for EMM. This feature adds an additional layer of security by restricting mobile app usage to managed devices only. A token is made available to be deployed via AppConfig after the functionality is enabled in your Dropbox Enterprise Account.

Dropbox for EMM provides a lot of enhanced security with minimal overhead. Here’s an example AppConfig snippet that would enable the app in your environment:
