App Installers is available for Jamf Now!

Jamf Now administrators are no longer required to package third-party apps for managed devices manually.

Introducing App Installers! Now, Mac admins can distribute pre-packaged third-party apps not available in the App Store. We’ve even added some apps that are available in the App Store to streamline workflows for Apple admins.

Work smarter, not harder with App Installers

It's easy for an admin’s time to be taken up by repetitive third-party app update and management tasks.

The Jamf App Installers team does this work for you. The team sources secure apps directly from vendors, repackaging them if needed. Then, the apps are available in Jamf’s App Catalog for administrators to swiftly deploy.

App Installers improve security, as well. App Installers-deployed apps are kept up-to-date automatically— just like apps deployed through the App Store.

How to get started

Here’s how it works. Jamf Now displays the following information for a Jamf Now App Installers app:

  • Seller (software publisher)
  • Version
  • Package size
  • Minimum OS requirement

Mac admins can use this information to help determine if an app is compatible with their computers.

Step-by-step: Deploying Mac apps with Jamf Now App Installers

  1. Log in to Jamf Now.
  2. Select “Apps.”
  3. Select “Add an App.”
  4. Select “App Installers,” and search for the required app.
  5. Select “Add.”
  6. Select “Install Automatically” as the deployment method.
  7. Deploy the app directly to a single computer, or to multiple computers using a Blueprint.

End users must close existing apps and relaunch them for the update to occur.

After deployment

To check the installation status of an app on a computer in Jamf Now, select: Devices > [the computer] > Mac Apps.

  • A green "Installed" status means that Jamf Now’s App Installers successfully installed the app.
  • A black "Installed" status means the end user previously added this app to the device.

Keep in mind
Jamf Now cannot uninstall Jamf Now App Installers apps, even if the Mac administrator removes the apps from their Jamf Now app library. They remain on the device until the end user removes it manually.

Save time and boost security

Automating deployment and updates of third-party apps not only saves Mac admins time, but it also increases device security. App Installers removes the potential for human error and updates Mac computers as soon as OS updates and patches are available, regardless of admin working hours.
